Child Nutrition Database Release 17

The Child Nutrition Database (CN-D) is required to be part of the nutrient analysis software approved by USDA for use in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, as well as, software approved for Nutrient Standard Menu Planning (NSMP).

Data is collected on the following 15 nutrients: calories, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, dietary fiber, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, ash, and moisture.


USDA Child Nutrition (CN) Database Online Web Tool for Submitting Nutrient Data

Food Manufacturers: Click here to add nutrient data to the CN Database for foods sold in the school market. You now need a Level 1 USDA eAuthorization account to access the Online Web Tool for Submitting Nutrient Data. When you go to the link above, click Register to obtain your eAuth account. When you return to submit data, select Sign In.




Comments and Notes for CN17 Release

CN17 Release: A record with a date after 03/1/2012 in the “date_added” field is a new record in the CN17 release. A record with a date after 03/1/2012 in the “last_modified” field and different from the date in the “date_added” field contains a revised value in one or more of its fields with the CN17 release.

69 new USDA Foods (commodity foods) and 30 new recipes used in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program were added to CN17.

192 existing USDA Foods (commodity foods) used in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program were updated with revised commodity codes, and updated nutrient data, including the new Vitamin A(RAE) values if available.

In CN17, Vitamin A(RAE) has replaced Vitamin A(RE). All Vitamin A(RE) values in CN17 have been marked as discontinued (d). Vitamin A(RAE) values were added for all Standard Reference items and those Commodity Food and Recipe items where the data was available.

All 447 foods in the Standard Reference 25 ADD_FOODS file have been added to CN17 provided that they met the nutrient requirements.
