Fact Sheets for Healthier School Meals is a packet of fact sheets developed for school foodservice professionals that offer strategies for purchasing, preparing, and serving meals consistent with the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The fact sheets offer information on using lowfat milk items, jazzing up menus with fruit, varying vegetable choices, serving dry beans and peas, serving more whole grains, being salt-savvy, including fiber-rich foods, limiting saturated fat and cholesterol, trimming trans-fats, and meeting the challenges of rising food costs.
