Parent School Breakfast Survey

Iowa Team Nutrition.

The University of Iowa conducted a survey of Iowa parents (n=8,982). The purpose of the survey was to 1) evaluate parents' knowledge of the school breakfast program at their child's school, 2) determine parent perceptions of the school breakfast program, and 3) identify general breakfast consumption behaviors of school-aged children.

Administrator School Breakfast Survey

Iowa Team Nutrition.

The University of Iowa conducted an online survey of K-12 school administrators in the state of Iowa (n=152). The purpose of the survey was to better understand administrator perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs around the school breakfast program and determine barriers and facilitators to improving school breakfast program participation in Iowa schools.

Move for Thought is a resource to increase physical activity opportunities for Pre-K and Kindergarten. The strategies can be used to meet physical activity needs, improve physical literacy and fundamental gross motor skills, and develop physical, cognitive, social, and emotional skills. Resource includes 57 activities, 11 songs, and training presentation and materials.

Iowa Recess Before Lunch

Empowered Parents for School Wellness

The 1 ½ hour workshop will empower parents to support school meals and lead change for school wellness. The school Food Service Director can “team up” to lead the workshop with a local Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), dietetic student, school nurse, health teacher, etc. Workshop materials include a leader guide, handouts, fact sheets, table tent awards, and myth and fact quiz.

Electronic Health Messages

Iowa Department of Education.

The students of Muscatine East Campus and Middle School developed a series of electronic messages to be utilized on televisions and monitors in cafeterias and throughout the school building. The messages have been added to a library of already developed messages and have been promoted to schools across the state as a nutrition education tool.
