The HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC) is a voluntary certification initiative established in 2004 to recognize those schools participating in the National School Lunch Program that have created healthier school environments through promotion of nutrition and physical activity. These tools were developed to help school nutrition programs communicate effectively with the school staff, parents, students, and the community about the needs and value of the child nutrition program. Parent and staff letters and a sample webpage template can all be edited and customized to meet specific school needs. Also includes a lesson for elementary teachers to use with students, as well as videos to communicate changes to school lunch, for four different audiences: grades K-5, grades 6-8, grades 9-12, and any adult who knows and student.
